Title: Memphis
Date: 2000
Medium: Pen on paper Please note that this work is framed and ready to be displayed. Description: When I lived in Arkansas one of the big things I did was go off to Memphis. Being the largest City in the area, it drew people from all parts of that region and was the largest city. One of the great distinctions that Memphis has, in addition to being the home of Elvis, is its history as music center. Celebrated Beal Street being one of the corner stones. For anyone with a serious interest in American Music of all types, Memphis is a place to visit for its unique history. This drawing will be shown with my other works at Paulina Miller Gallery. |
For Joni Mitchell Fans
For those that know me well, I am a huge fan of Joni Mitchell. On her Hejira album, there is a song titled, "Furry Sings the Blues." The subject of the song is Blues legend W.C. Handy, whose home has been turned into a museum on Beal Street in Downtown Memphis. On a trip to Memphis I had the opportunity to visit Beal Street. It left such a strong impression on me that I created this drawing pulling from my impressions of Beal street as it was with my recollection of Ms. Mitchell's enigmatic album "Hejira" |
